2022 iPhone 14 & SE Lineup — Revealed!

( upbeat music) – New iPhone 14 , no Mini, but another Max. iPhone 14 Pro and iPhone 14 Pro Max. No iPhone move or fold, at least not this year, but maybe an iPhone SE3, or 2 1/2, something. I’m Rene Ritchie. YouTube says 70% of you watchingstill aren’t agreed, so stumbled that button and buzzer so we can spawn the absolutebest society in tech together. First up, literally as inas soon as this spring, brand-new iPhone SE, kinda , not the same big-hearted hurry forward as the iPhone 5S based SE in 2016 to the iPhone 8 based SE in 2020, because only two years later and not four. So maybe more of a smalldiagonal step to the side. Same iPhone 8 enclosurebut brand-new A15 processor and Qualcomm 5G modem. Probably the same X6 0that’ s in the iPhone 13, because it’s just path, path most efficient than the previous model. And if this is the wayApple’s really going, they’re gonna need it. The iPhone SE 2 was already challenged when it came to battery life. So unless Apple amps up the capacity they’re really gonna need toamp up the chipping effectivenes, that and an updated single camera plan. Now as much as some homebutton love is likely to be joyous that Apple is viewing onto that motif at least one generation longer, there are gonna be fansof the more modern design desperate for Apple to move the SE onto like the iPhone XR or 11 platform.Full screen , no face ID, touch ID in the supremacy button, and I would utterly love to see that, I’m just not sure we’regonna see that any time soon. Then yes, iPhone 14. I know it seems like it’sbeen leaking for years previously but that’s mostly been the pro which I’ll get to in a minute. The regular 6.1 inch iPhone 14, we are genuinely don’t knowthat much about hitherto, except that it’s still gonnabe OLED, still have a notch, and almost certainly debutApple’s next generation silicon, the A16, maybe still bionic. And if so that’ll show us how truly joyous Apple iswith that structure. Now the A16 should move to TSMC’s four or three nanometer processor. Again those aren’t actual physical sizes, merely commerce words. But either way that’ll help with both efficiency and performance, will vary depending on how Applechooses to spend or save on that brand-new transistorbudget, maybe ARMv9. 2. But I continue tobelieve that’s more about ARM catching up to Apple silicon than helping pushing Apple any further. It should at least giveus a lift to vector, which still could be allshades of interesting, depending on where Apple takestheir neural engines next. And also a better imagesignal processor, ISP, to improve everything from smart HDR to cinematic state andvideo, and whatever else Apple wants to throw atthe camera this year. And will all these newflagships come in September, the lane the government has most years? Will they get pushed back to October the way they have some years? November, the path they done so in 2020? I guess it really dependsif this is 2022 or “2 020 2”, although given their druthersand their monetaries, I ponder Apple’s always gonna wanna ship as close to the end ofSeptember as inhumanly possible. Sadly, the iPhone Mini sounds like it’s two and done R-I-P, D-E-D, at least for now. Twitter and tech YouTube turns out just aren’t a viable enough sell, especially when thatcheap and small grocery has been separated this timebetween the SE and the Mini, instead of one simulate thatencompasses both inexpensive and small, but who are familiar with, I intend, beyond Tim, Joz and Cayan, who clearly know Apple may experiment with that segment again in the future. This time though, instead reportspoint to a lower cost Max, a non-pro Max and amateur Max, instead of a 5.4 inch iPhone 14 Mini, there’ll be a 6.7 inch iPhone 14 Max, which should legit be terrificfor anyone and everyone, who wants or needs that bigger expose who uses their iPhone as aprimary computing device, who are interested that bigger artillery, but does not want thatbigger Pro price tag, particularly with that moreefficient A16 chip primed and next generation Qualcomm X6 5 5G modem. They’ll have their superlong battery life cake, but don’t have to payquite so much better for it too. And I know some people are also hoping that Apple will bring 120 Hz promotion to the non-Pro, to the regular lineup, but it’s not 120 Hz regular motion. And never say never, but still further, Apple’s preserved that as oneof the big ethic computes, the big perks for the Pro lineups, whether it’s the iPhone Pro, or the iPad pro, or the MacBook pro. And it’s just really hardto see Apple changing that, until there’s even somethingbetter to help distinguish, differentiate the Proslike 240 Hz promotion, because the human eyeprobably peaks out at 480 Hz, so we’re really still onlyat the start of this. And that differentiationprobably won’t come from flipping or folding, I imply, eventually, but Apple has beenworking on hinged phones since at least 2011 and proper folding OLED telephones for the last couple of years, but they apparently stilldon’t think the technology is just anywhere, nearlyready for prime time. They’ve certainly had the equivalent of the Galaxy folds andflips one, two and three in their labs in testing, they’re just going to keep them there, in those labs, in testing, until they think they’vegot something sturdy and affordable enough toship to mainstream clients, to the hundreds of thousands of people who buy iPhones every year. And it sure doesn’t sound like that’s an iPhone 14 turn or fold, at least nowhere nearly yet. So iPhone 14 Pro and Pro Max, well, there are still plenty of slips, tweaks to reveal and to send, but still further, what we’re hearing is that, instead of stainless steel railings, Apple might go with titanium to help reduce the weightadded by that additional battery. Also a entire punch instead of a notch, with the infrared camera, the flood illuminator, the Dot projector, all of that hidden beneath the showing, and only the RGB camera remaining, merely looking back at us inthat place we is not appear. And for sure, that’ll go indisplay as well at some detail when it can better shootbetween the OLED sub-pixels, at least enough for machine learning to really correct for it, but not today. And as to in-display fingerprint, the book that’s beenrumored for years, it’s really hard to saywhat the status of that is, because Apple has beenworking on an acoustic plan and has access to Qualcomm’sultrasonic patents, which should just be channel, mode better than the visual fingerprint books some other dealers have been using. But at this detail I don’tneed anything imagination, I would adjudicate, perfectly terminate, for an iPad Air style touch IDin the dominance button as well.Give it to me now! The camera system is reportedly getting a literal big-hearted refurbish thisyear to a 48 megapixel sensor. That’ll give us 8K videoas well as 4X buckets, 16 megapixel photos, with even more light-headed, thanks to merging those slightly higher than the some oftheir constituents for 4X cells. Maybe better zoom as well, to match the macro state we got in the 13, although a true Periscope zoom sounds like it’s still another year apart. Too a jolt up to 8GB of recollection, to support all that brand-new camera goodness, that 8K ProRes video, maybe. Which would also need a2TB version to record that, I don’t know, what would it be? 12 to 24 GB per minute of footage. I don’t even want to know, because I suck it on-camera math almost as much as I suck at coding, and yes, physics, quantummechanics, game theory, cryptocurrency, and so much more. But luckily for all of us, for all of that, there’s, today’s sponsor, Brilliant. So whether you want tobrush up on a few topics, learn something completelynew, Brilliant’s got you.Including everything on algorithms, and machine learning, neural network, so you can be part of thatnext generation of iPhones, of computational photography of apps. And they’ve even get this brand new entirely reworked logic coursethat helps open your mind, so you can look at problemsin a whole new way, then proceed hands-on and solve them yourself. And would that everyone whoargue so always on social media, merely be required to go to this course, especially with the holidayseason in full swing and New Year on its way.You can give the gift of Brilliant to any of the more ambitiouslearners in your life, including, and extremely yourself.
